ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Although Zonic Shockum has existed since 1988 to present, this CD represents the years 1989-1995 (the years Marc Sonstein played drums). This was also the most active time for their live performances. Collected here are all of the studio recordings from those years excluding duplicates, songs containing copywritten sound samples, and two covers.

These four sessions were all recorded in Philadelphia in the wake of the college rock explosion ushered in by Husker Du, The Minutemen, Sonic Youth and Black Flag. True indie musicianship was alive and flourishing in the city. The network of bands and the piles of raw talent spilling out onto the streets and into all the fanzines was spectacular. It was DIY. For a brief period of time it was pure, innocent and unashamed.

Tracks 1-5 recorded at The Green Room by Steve Conard, remixed by Joe Ujj at Robot Recordings. Tracks 6-9 recorded by Adam Lasus at Studio Red. Tracks 10-14 recorded by Art DiFuria at The Frizz. Tracks 15-18 recorded by J. Cox at Studio Red. "Lollipop" performed live on WKDU in Philadelphia.

French horn on The Wedding Song by Myk-Syd.
